Brighton have once again shown why their fearless approach to matches is paying off as they halted Arsenal’s title hopes with a 3-0 win at The Emirates in the Premier League.

From minute one, the Seagulls dominated possession and were content playing the ball around from the back despite Arsenal trying to press them and when the Gunners won the ball, De Zerbi’s men pressed quickly and turned the ball over by winning a tackle or the hosts gifting the them back possession.

This approach is one that only a handful of teams can nail down against what has been an impressive Arsenal side this season.

Most recently Manchester City did it in their 4-1 win at the Etihad last month, but many would not have expected Albion to do the same, following their 5-1 defeat to Everton on Monday.

However, De Zerbi’s men bounced back and showed why they are fighting for a top-six finish.

They showed hunger, passion, desire and unsettled Arsenal with their high press, composure on the ball and the accuracy of their passing.

The stats backed this up! 60% of possession, 528 passes and 84% passing accuracy.

Plus the most important stat of all, three goals scored and none conceded.

Those three goals took Albion on to a total of 66 goals scored in 34 games, which is an average of 1.94 goals a game. It also means that only Liverpool (67), Arsenal (83) and Manchester City (92) have scored more goals than the Seagulls in the Premier League this season.

Brighton’s record against the five sides above them in the league also makes for good reading. In their eight games against the top five sides they have picked up 14 out of a possible 24 points and only lost twice, which came against Arsenal at home and Manchester City away.

Albion still have Newcastle away and Manchester City at home in their final four games of the season, but whatever happens between now and the 28th May, it has been a record-breaking season.

With the win over Arsenal, the Seagulls have now picked up 17 wins, which is five more than they managed last season and eight more than in their first four seasons in the Premier League (9).

It is also set to be the first season that Albion have finished with a positive goal difference in the Premier League.

In addition, to that they have also exceeded their best point tally in the Premier League (51) by seven points this season (58) with four games still to go.

One thing is for sure it has been a remarkable season and one which myself and many other Albion fans could only dream of.
