Robert Sanchez’s time at Albion came to end yesterday after ten years at the club, as he left to join fellow Premier League side Chelsea for £25 million.

Although the 25-year-old left on bad terms having requested to be left out of the matchday squad for the final five games of last season, he has played a key role in the success the Seagulls have had in the last couple of seasons.

Since making his Premier League debut in November 2020, Sanchez made 89 appearances for Albion in all competitions and kept 29 clean sheets.

His performances saw him receive his first call-up to the Spanish squad in March 2021. He was then handed his debut in September 2021 coming off the bench in Spain’s World Cup Qualifier against Georgia.

Despite losing his place in between the sticks to Jason Steele in March, Sanchez made some vital saves which helped them to secure a sixth place finish and European football for the first time in the club’s history.

For example in the wins at Southampton and Everton he made a few good saves.

Even when you look at Sanchez’s last game for the club in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United, Sanchez made a number of good stops including a great save to deny Marcus Rashford in extra time.

For many Albion fans the sad thing about the way things ended for Sanchez last season, was that he missed out on the celebrations despite playing around three quarters of the season as the number one.
