Albion kicked their seventh season in the Premier League yesterday with a convincing 4-1 win over Luton Town at The Amex.

There were plenty of positives to take from the win for Manager Roberto De Zerbi:

Record signing continues to impress

When the Seagulls spent £30 million on a forward who had scored 11 goals in an unconvincing Watford side, many would have wondered what Albion saw in Joao Pedro. Well the answer is a talented young player.

The 21-year impressed during pre-season scoring two penalties. Yesterday he showed again how he is not letting the huge price tag phase him. The forward caught the eye with his work-rate, his runs and positioning in the box and his composure. Pedro opened his Prem account for the Seagulls from the penalty spot meaning he is now three for three from the spot and is Albion’s new penalty taker following the departure of Alexis Mac Allister in the summer. On another day Pedro could have had a hat trick having hit the post in the second half and squandered a great chance in the opening five minutes of the game.

So far it appears Albion have found another exciting talent in the young Brazilian.

Summer signings catch the eye

Three of Albion’s new recruits were handed their Prem debuts for the club and they certainly impressed.

Pedro as spoken about above is another superb young talent and worth every penny of the £30 million the Seagulls paid to secure his services.

James Milner showed why Albion have got themselves another bargain on a free transfer. The 37–year-old was everywhere and put in a great shift. His experience and leadership skills will be vital for the Albion in what is going to be a challenging season with four different competitions to play in.

Even when Milner went off in the 79th minute he was shouting at his teammates not to let let this result slip away and carrying on going at Luton for the remainder of the game.

Milner’s appearance yesterday means he has now appeared in 22 consecutive Prem seasons which is testament to the professional and impressive career he has had so far.

Mahmoud Dahoud was given his Prem debut and showed glimpses of what he will offer to Albion.

The German midfielder showed how he is a box-to-box midfielder and will put himself about in the middle of the park.

One moment that really impressed me as well as others was early on in the first half where a corner for the Seagulls was initially cleared and Kauro Mitoma then played the ball to Dahoud. He then twisted and turned to find a inch of space to dig out a cross which skipper Lewis Dunk headed over.

Roberto De Zerbi highlighted how Important’ Dahoud will be for his side.

Last season’s star performers continue where they left off

Last season was one where a number of players caught the eye and they look to have continued where they left off last season.

To name just a few Pervis Estupinan was a bundle of energy and once again was a real threat from the left with his pace and delivery and capped off an impressive display with a great run and ball into the box for substitute Evan Ferguson to get on the end of, for Albion’s fourth of the afternoon.

Mitoma although frustrated he could not get on the scoresheet, was a major threat with his pace, skill and delivery.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet he put in a pinpoint cross to pick out Solly March for the opener.

Of course I could not mention Pascal Gross who I have run out or superlatives to describe his performances. He once again set the tone with his work rate and his ability to pop up all over the pitch. He also put in some impressive deliveries from set pieces and went close to getting on the scoresheet late on but his effort was well saved.

It’s a great start to the campaign for the Seagulls who will now be hoping to kick on and impress again next weekend away to Wolves.
