Albion now know heading into tomorrow’s match at The Amex against already-relegated Southampton that a win will secure their place in next season’s Europe League.

That is after what was a brilliant day for the Seagulls in terms of results going their way.

Tottenham and Aston Villa headed into their games against Brentford and Liverpool respectively looking to leapfrog Albion.

However Spurs were beaten 3-1 at home to Brentford despite Hary Kane giving them the lead early on, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring a brace and then setting up Yoane Wissa to seal the three points for Thomas Frank’s side.

Villa travelled to an in-form Liverpool side and took the lead through Jacob Ramsey in the 27th minute, although things could have been even better for the visitors had Ollie Watkins not missed his penalty five minutes before.

However, in the 89th minute Liverpool scored an equaliser through Roberto Firmino.

Those results leave Tottenham in eighth on 57 Points, while Villa remain seventh on 58 points and below Albion on goal difference.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men now know that a win over the Saints tomorrow will secure the club’s first ever European campaign.

That added incentive for the Seagulls will make the Amex even more raucous, with European football within touching distance.

It is a sight that many fans would have only dreamt of, especially when you think that just 26 years ago Brighton were fighting to stay in the football league.

That famous saying ‘It’s the stuff of dreams’ has been used many times this season, but it would certainly be echoed by many Albion fans if they beat Southampton!

Just like I was there at Newcastle in ‘79; at Liverpool and Wembley in ‘83; listening down a phone line from my then new home in the US in ‘97; just like I was there in ‘16 at Middlesborough and at the Amex in ‘17 against Wigan. At Wembley in ‘19 and ‘23. Despite living 6000 miles away in California, I will be there again to see my beloved Brighton make history again tomorrow. Distance, schmistance!!!! Truly the stuff of dreams!!!!! And I think the Amex will be LOUD tomorrow!!!!!!
